Building clinical trial capacity starts with people.

Through a partnership between Michael Smith Health Research BC and IMPaCT— one of six CIHR-funded clinical trials training platforms — early-career researchers are gaining the skills and connections to lead high-quality trials in maternal and pediatric health. These efforts ensure that clinical innovation continues to make a meaningful difference for families across BC and Canada.

The partnership supports three BC-based researchers named as 2026-27 IMPaCT Health Research BC Fellows. The fellows — Dr. Sabine Laguë, Dr. Scott Ramsay, and Lauren Irving — are among 19 researchers selected nationally to participate in the training platform this year.

Their projects focus on reducing long-term heart disease risk after pregnancy complications, improving quality of life for children with pulmonary hypertension, and enhancing pediatric concussion follow-up through telehealth.

Designed for doctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career researchers, the IMPaCT Fellowship offers hands-on training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to help researchers gain the skills to design, conduct, and communicate clinical trials involving children and pregnant people.
