Let’s work together

Health Research BC partners in several ways to optimize impact, increase resources, and reduce duplication across the health research ecosystem.

We collaborate with health research funders, including non-profit organizations, for-profit entities and foundations to co-deliver funding opportunities. We also offer match funding to support BC-based research teams applying to non-BC government-funded competitions, ensuring equal or greater investment flows into the province.

We co-create partnerships that drive priority research and related initiatives. Our flexible and collaborative approaches are built around the unique goals of each partner — opening new avenues to pursue shared priorities and create meaningful impact.

Ways to partner with us

Match-funding and funder competition

To increase the success of BC researchers in non‑BC provincially‑funded competitions, we partner with funders in two ways:

  • Through our Match‑funding Program that brings equal or greater investments into the province
  • By working with competition funders to allocate dedicated partnered funds for BC applicants. Both approaches support our strategic direction of developing and retaining BC health research talent.

Hear from partners and researchers

  • “Support from Health Research BC was a game changer. It enabled me to work inside the system — not alongside it — and make my research more relevant. It also accelerated my career and allowed me to stay in BC to build a program of nursing-led research that drives real change.

Leah Lambert, Health System Impact Fellowship awardee

  • “As an early-career clinician researcher, a Michael Smith Health Research BC / Parkinson Society of British Columbia Health Professional-Investigator Award allows me to maintain and progress with the momentum I acquired throughout my clinical and research training. It will allow me to establish and develop a productive and sustainable research program.“

Jason Chan, Health Professional Investigator awardee

  • “Partnering with Michael Smith Health Research BC helps us move research forward at an exponential pace. They do a great job of bringing organizations and researchers together.
