Overview
Michael Smith Health Research BC invites postdoctoral, early career and mid-career researchers, and eligible health system staff from across BC to apply for the Mobilize Award, part of the Impact Pathways Program.
The Mobilize Award provides funding for collaborative knowledge mobilization activities that facilitate the design, production, and translation of research that is impactful and relevant for the people of BC.
Award details
The Mobilize Award supports activities that:
- enhance the design and development of health research and/or enhance the reach and use of health research knowledge;
- create and strengthen relationships between researchers and research users; and
- build knowledge mobilization capacity of research users and postdoctoral, early and mid-career researchers, and trainees.
The Mobilize Award does not support:
- knowledge mobilization activities that are not collaboratively developed and implemented by a researcher and research user;
- operating expenses for research, such as primary data generation, database creation, or clinical trial operations; and
- costs related to implementing an intervention, including both the costs of implementation activities and the costs of purchasing or acquiring the intervention being implemented.
Eligibility
Applications must include one research user, one researcher, and at least one trainee.
The research user and researcher must bring complementary perspectives.
Applications may include eligible health system staff, representatives from not-for-profit, private or public sector organizations, community members and partners with lived experience, where appropriate.
Eligible health system staff include practicing health professionals who do not hold academic research positions, operational leaders, health administrators, or similar, who hold an eligible position at an institution that has an agreement to hold funds with Health Research BC.
Representatives from Indigenous communities and organizations (ICOs) may participate as research users, co-leads, or as primary applicants, if they hold an eligible position at an approved host institution.
Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and researchers affiliated with ICOs may serve as researcher co-leads.

Review and selection process
Applications will be grouped into five regional funding pools based on the primary location of the proposed knowledge mobilization activities. Within each pool, applications will be entered into a randomized lottery and reviewed by Health Research BC staff to confirm they meet competition eligibility. Partnered awards
The Mobilize Award includes opportunities for partnered awards, supporting organizations to advance shared priorities through collaborative knowledge mobilization.
Partnered awards also provide opportunities for applicants to connect with organizations and communities working in areas of shared interest.

About the Impact Pathways Program
The Impact Pathways Program supports collaborative, community-connected health research across British Columbia. It includes two awards — Engage and Mobilize — that support engagement and knowledge mobilization activities at different stages.
