This project proposes the implementation of Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) as a structured, evidence-based approach to routine outcome monitoring within clinical counselling services at Vancouver Coastal Health. FIT involves the use of two brief, validated tools—the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) and the Session Rating Scale (SRS)—administered at the beginning and end of each counselling session. These tools promote client-centred dialogue by gathering real-time feedback on client wellbeing and the therapeutic alliance, allowing clinicians to adjust their approach to better meet client needs.

Substantial evidence supports the effectiveness of FIT in improving client engagement, retention, and outcomes. It is recognized as an evidence-based practice by organizations such as the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. However, its adoption in routine clinical practice remains limited.

This project aims to address that gap by introducing FIT into counselling programs. Clinical counsellors will receive structured training on both the theoretical foundations and practical application of FIT. The ORS and SRS will be integrated into session workflows using paper-based formats to ensure accessibility and ease of use. Additionally, client-facing materials will be co-developed in collaboration with Patient and Family Partners to support culturally safe, equitable, and respectful engagement.
