The primary goal of the proposed academic-industry partnership is to determine neural correlates and predictors of pain responsiveness in humans. This will involve two distinct research projects:
1. Analyzing previously collected EEG data to identify neural markers of pain perception.
2. Developing a real-time neurofeedback device based on these markers, in collaboration with Algiamed Technologies.
During their internship, the intern will develop a range of valuable skills and competencies. This includes basic data analysis, learning to handle and analyze large EEG datasets, and using advanced data-driven techniques. Moreover, the intern will gain new insights into neural correlates of pain perception, participate in the design and operationalization of a neurofeedback device, and work closely with industry partners to translate research findings into practical applications. This project and internship will significantly support health organizations in British Columbia, including ICORD, by contributing to the development of non-opioid pain management options and greatly enhancing the capabilities of Algiamed Technologies’ devices a private company with their head office in British Columbia in creating a closed-loop neurofeedback system for pain management.
