Yaqi Zhang

Dr. Yaqi Zhang is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the University of British Columbia. She received her PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, where she developed a strong interest in gastrointestinal biology, gastrointestinal drug delivery, and precision medicine. Her current research investigates how interactions between bile acid metabolism and the gut microbiome regulate intestinal epithelial function and immune responses in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Using human-derived samples and advanced intestinal organoid models, Dr. Zhang seeks to understand how disruptions in the bile acid-microbiome-intestinal axis contribute to intestinal inflammation and disease progression, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutic targets to restore intestinal barrier function and improve outcomes for patients with IBD.
