Will Garrett-Petts is Professor of English, Rhetoric and Canadian Studies at Thompson Rivers University. From 2012-2022 he served as Associate Vice-President of Research, and from 2022-23 as Vice-President Research (interim). During the Spring Semester of 2023 he held the Killam Visiting Professorship in Canadian Studies at Bridgewater State University. Garrett-Petts is currently serving as the PI for the Community and Cultural Mapping Research Group; nationally and internationally as an adjunct professor at the University of Coimbra, Centre for Social Studies (Cities, Cultures and Architecture Research Group); and as a Member of the Arts in Society Advisory Board. He has received 31 external research grants totalling over $5 million in funding; published 18 books and catalogues, and over 150 articles, chapters and conference presentations. His health research focuses on a cultural mapping of the opioid crisis on vulnerable populations, in particular those working in the trades; and on the impact of wildfires and wildfire mitigation policies on people who have lived and living experience of homelessness, poverty, substance use, and wildfire displacement.
