Samuel Tobias is a postdoctoral researcher in the UBC Department of Medicine. His research uses indicators of the unregulated drug supply to measure how the changing composition of drugs, particularly opioids such as fentanyl, shapes population-level outcomes such as drug-related mortality and retention in opioid agonist treatment.
During his PhD, Samuel’s work linked fentanyl concentration trends to these deaths across British Columbia and characterized the epidemiology of the unregulated supply. His postdoctoral research extends this through a program of research examining substance use-related health outcomes and their impact on health service utilization.
