Samara Mayer is a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health and Canadian Institute of Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria. She has coordinates and leads research projects that seek to inform and advocate for equitable health service delivery for people who experience structural vulnerabilities, including people who use drugs, people who experience housing insecurity and people who experience poverty.
Her research projects have focused on 1) understanding socio-structural forces that impact access to and engagement with health services, and 2) characterizing patient-centered health and social outcomes in the context of overdose prevention interventions, addiction treatment programs and palliative care services. She has expertise in qualitative methodologies and has extensive experience with interviewing, observational fieldwork, and participatory methods to engage interdisciplinary stakeholders including people with lived-expertise, clinicians, and policy makers as research collaborators, partners and knowledge-users.
