Dr. Sahand Ghaffari is a biomedical scientist specializing in the design of functional biomaterials for translational healthcare. He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine from the University of British Columbia, where he developed polymer-based systems with tunable physicochemical and biological properties for applications in wound healing, antimicrobial therapies, and blood-compatible technologies. His research integrates polymer synthesis, surface functionalization, and advanced analytical characterization to engineer biomaterials with enhanced therapeutic performance. He has led projects on the design of filtration systems for universal blood conversion, antimicrobial hydrogels for wound repair, and photosterilization of dental and urologic implants. Through collaborations with industry partners, his work has supported preclinical product development and demonstrated strong translational potential.
As a Health Research BC award recipient and primary investigator, Sahand leads the R&D efforts on a project evaluating the microbiome compatibility, hemolytic safety, and wound healing potential of Ediccare’s novel biopolymer gel platform for precision gum care.
