Dr. Marlise Hofer is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Psychology at the University of Victoria. Her research examines how sensory experiences and everyday social interactions influence mental health and wellbeing. She studies how health conditions affect people’s daily lives and relationships, using longitudinal studies, smartphone tracking, and the development of evidence-based interventions.
Dr. Hofer’s current research focuses on the psychological and social consequences of olfactory dysfunction, including smell loss following COVID-19. She leads the development of an online intervention designed to help people with persistent smell loss overcome challenges and improve their quality of life. Her broader research interests include close relationships, social connection, digital technology, and health behaviour change.
