Jeanie Malone

Dr. Jeanie Malone completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on the development and clinical translation of optical imaging technologies for early cancer detection and management. She specializes in endoscopic optical coherence tomography (OCT), either alone or in combination with imaging modalities including autofluorescence, polarization-sensitive, dynamic, and angular contrast techniques.
During her doctoral training, Dr. Malone investigated optical imaging catheters for the detection of tubo-ovarian, cervical, oral, and lung cancers, as well as lung allograft monitoring in transplant patients.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow at the BC Cancer Research Institute, Dr. Malone is leading a first-in-human trial to evaluate whether these catheters are suitable for imaging the fallopian tubes. The most common form of ovarian cancer originates in the fallopian tubes, but conventional medical imaging lacks the resolution to screen for these small lesions. Fallopian screening provides an opportunity to detect tubo-ovarian cancers when they are smallest and most treatable.
