Dr. Jan Vanwelkenhuyzen completed his PhD at Ghent University in Health Science in 2024 focusing on liquid biopsy derived biomarkers in advanced metastatic prostate cancer. Late 2025 he started as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Prostate Centre in the Wyatt lab. His research focuses on the development of new biomarkers, by investigating different -omic layers (genome, transcriptome and epigenome), utilizing tissue and liquid biopsy (plasma) samples of metastatic prostate cancer patients. Dr. Vanwelkenhuyzen hopes to translate new prognostic and predictive biomarkers into trials and eventually into Canadian clinical practice.
