Florriann Fehr, RN, MN, PhD, is a Professor in the School of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University, with 24 years teaching, mentoring, and supporting future nurses. Her work is guided by compassion, advocacy, and a belief that people affected by stigma, trauma, substance use, and complex health challenges deserve dignity, respect, and hope. Her research focuses on addictions and recovery, harm reduction, medical cannabis, brain health, community health, and workplace well-being.
Dr. Fehr is the Research Lead of the Maverick Recovery Program Medical Cannabis Initiative, a community-engaged partnership exploring medical cannabis as an adjunct approach within recovery-oriented care. She has organized interdisciplinary forums focused on harm reduction and recovery, bringing together community members, researchers, clinicians, and people with lived and living experience to listen, learn and advance compassionate approaches to recovery. A recipient of the 2024 TRU Faculty Excellence Award, Dr. Fehr has secured funding from WorkSafeBC, SSHRC, the Interior Universities Research Coalition/Ministry of Health, and CIHR, and has contributed peer-reviewed scholarship in harm reduction.
