Farinaz Havaei

My research program is focused on strengthening health systems by improving healthcare workers’ working conditions, workforce sustainability, and the quality and safety of patient care. My research interests include nursing workforce retention, workload and staffing, healthy work environments, long-term care, implementation science, and integrated knowledge translation. I lead interdisciplinary and health-system partnered research that brings together researchers, healthcare leaders, clinicians, and people with lived experience to co-develop evidence-informed solutions to pressing nursing workforce challenges. My work has informed policy and practice, including research on nurses’ psychological health and safety, workplace violence, pandemic workforce policies, and patient-centred approaches to workload measurement and management. I have secured competitive provincial and federal research funding, published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, and received awards recognizing my contributions to nursing and health services research. My current work is focused on generating actionable solutions to strengthen nursing retention and build a more sustainable healthcare system.
