Dr. Dwayne Tucker is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of British Columbia and Arthritis Research Canada, working under the supervision of Dr. Mary De Vera. His research uses population-based administrative health data and pharmacoepidemiologic methods to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of medications used to manage rheumatic diseases during pregnancy. A current focus of his research is evaluating the safety of biosimilar medications, an area where evidence to guide treatment during pregnancy remains limited.
Dwayne began his career in clinical laboratory science in Jamaica before earning an MSc in Oncology from the University of Nottingham and completing his PhD in Women+ and Children’s Health Sciences at UBC. During his doctoral training, he developed and validated the Endometriosis Pain Index, a machine learning prediction model to improve outcomes for people with endometriosis, and characterized cancer-related mutations associated with endometriosis severity and progression. Through his research, Dwayne aims to generate evidence that improves medication safety during pregnancy and supports informed treatment decisions for people with rheumatic diseases.
