Dr. Amber Bourgeois is a PhD-prepared Nurse Practitioner whose research reflects a transition from clinical oncology to equity-oriented, community-engaged cancer research. With more than 15 years of oncology nursing experience, she witnessed firsthand the structural inequities that limit access to cancer treatment for people experiencing social and structural vulnerability. These experiences motivated her to pursue a PhD focused on advancing equitable access to cancer care through research.
Dr. Bourgeois completed her PhD in the School of Nursing at the University of Victoria. Her research employs participatory, ethnographic, and relational approaches that prioritize meaningful engagement, trust-building, and the generation of practice-informed evidence to improve health equity.
She is currently a Michael Smith Health Research BC Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Nursing at Trinity Western University. Her postdoctoral research uses mixed-methods and implementation science approaches to examine how social determinants of health influence person-centred outcomes and health system performance, with the goal of informing more equitable models of cancer care.
