Overview

Health Research BC and the Rick Hansen Foundation partnered to fund researchers whose work contributes to advancing spinal cord injury (SCI) research and accessibility initiatives across British Columbia. Together, we've supported projects like Matthias Walter’s study on the impact of neurogenic bladder treatment on autonomic dysreflexia and cerebral blood flow in individuals with SCI. By 2036, it is estimated that 1 in 5 Canadians will have a disability. One of the biggest barriers that people with disabilities face is a lack of physical access to places where they live, work and play. Established in 1988 to continue Rick Hansen’s dream of creating an accessible and inclusive world, the Rick Hansen Foundation has funded spinal cord injury research, raised awareness, and removed social and physical barriers to help people with disabilities live to their full potential. Its goal is to make Canada fully accessible.
