Overview

Providence Research is the research engine of Providence Health Care (PHC). In affiliation with the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University, Providence Research is home to several globally recognized research centres and clinical academic research groups.

Health Research BC and Providence Research partner to fund researchers whose work contributes to improving care for people living with complex health conditions in British Columbia. Together, we've supported projects through two Providence Research centres, the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation (HLI) and the Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes (Advancing Health), empowering research in areas such as heart and lung disease, mental health, and health equity. Their centres additionally include the BC Centre on Substance Use, the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, and the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation.
Providence Research aims to promote scientific knowledge and interdisciplinary collaborations to advance research that addresses pressing health care challenges. Integrated with patient care and teaching, their research spans more than 30 programs and disciplines. Their areas of focus directly align with PHC’s populations of emphasis: HIV/AIDS; substance use and addictions; emergency medicine, heart and lung disease; and kidney disease.

Along with mentoring and training new talent, Providence Research promotes interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaborations, knowledge transfer, and partnerships with patients, families and health leaders in the community.
