The purpose of this study is to devise a comprehensive strategy for continuous improvement of trauma care system that addresses substantial gaps in the availability of information regarding processes and outcomes of trauma care in British Columbia. Specifically, we will:

  • determine the informational needs of decision-makers responsible for trauma care,
  • identify patient centered outcomes of the delivery of trauma care,
  • map processes in the continuum of care for major trauma patients in the regional health authorities, and
  • develop information management solutions that improve the utility of existing clinical and administrative datasets pertinent to care of the severely injured.

Integral to this applied health services research is proposed collaboration with providers, administrators and support personnel involved in all phases of major adult trauma care (pre-hospital care, acute care, specialized care, rehabilitation, and injury prevention) aiming to advance trauma system evaluation and redesign in the province.
