The BC Rural and Remote Health Research Network (BCRRHRN) intends to increase the investigation of issues relevant to improvements in the health of rural and remote communities from biomedical, clinical, health services and population health perspectives. The Network encourages the development of rural health research capacity among multidisciplinary teams, based in the experience and characteristics of rural and remote regions and with an emphasis on creating and nurturing academic-community partnerships.

There is substantial evidence that rural, remote and northern populations experience compromised health status when compared to their urban counterparts. Through increasing support for more researchers, research collaborations and knowledge exchange, the BC Rural and Remote Health Research Network offers a supportive infrastructure designed to facilitate the investigation of issues relevant to improvements in the health of rural and remote communities from biomedical, clinical, health services and population health perspectives. The Network encourages the development of rural health research based in the experiences and characteristics of rural and remote regions and with an emphasis on creating and nurturing academic-community partnerships, and multi-disciplinary investigative teams.

The mission of the BC Rural and Remote Health Research Network is to improve the health of rural and remote British Columbians through the creation of new research knowledge and subsequent translation into practice.

The goals of the BC Rural and Remote Health Research Network are to:

  • build capacity in rural and remote health research by increasing the number of researchers from all four pillars;
  • support multi-disciplinary and multi-professional research collaboration across the spectrum from communities to universities;
  • support the exchange of new knowledge between researchers, policy makers, health care providers and consumers.

Building research careers

Since 2001, we’ve supported over 3,000 BC health researchers to launch programs, drive innovations, and attract millions in new research investment.
