Dr. Emma Lacroix is a postdoctoral research fellow at the BC Cancer Research Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Bennewith. Her current research focuses on stress conditions within the solid tumour microenvironment, and how they can impact the effects of chemotherapy. Emma completed her PhD in 2025 in the Audas lab at Simon Fraser University, where she studied the formation of dormancy-inducing functional amyloid aggregates called amyloid bodies in response to heat stress, and extracellular acidosis. To expand on these findings in the context of cancer, her postdoctoral work focuses on targeting amyloid bodies in dormant cancer cells in order to increase cellular susceptibility to conventional chemotherapeutic agents. Her work aims to target treatment-resistant dormant cancer cells within solid tumours, in a variety of cancer types.
